The most important engineering point for a magnetron sputter magnetic circuit is to pull up the use efficiency of the high-value target to its maximum. Therefore, in magnetic circuit design, it is necessary to determine the target erosion trend through analysis. What is particularly difficult for this analysis is that the target is a strongly magnetic target and magnetic flux passes through it only with difficulty, but even a tiny error in the analysis has a major impact on production efficiency. Shin-Etsu Chemicals designs and manufactures magnetic circuits with no difference between calculated results and actual measurements thanks to high-precision magnetic field analysis using plasma distribution simulation and optimization of material property data.
The structure of a motor for an electrical generator is extremely similar to the structure of a power motor, but when it comes to motors for electric generators that use wind, water, or other natural energy, because of the frequent stopping and starting, it is necessary to reduce the startup torque to the absolute minimum. In order to minimize the startup torque, the cogging torque created by the motor structure must be reduced. For example, for a motor with a core, this can be done by closing the stator slots and optimizing the rotor magnet shape and layout. By feeding back the results of generator motor characteristic analysis obtained with magnetic field analysis and evaluation test devices, Shin-Etsu Chemicals aims to develop even higher efficiency motors.
